I have been working at GE Healthcare full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

- Good benefits
- I worked for a great leader. Great/Good leaders can work for any company.
- Interesting work. Healthcare is a very interesting problem space for engineering.
- If you are into rigorous, detailed process this is a great place to be

Cons

- eLearning. Right out of 30 rock.
- Large and can be impersonal as such.
- If you are not into rigorous, detailed process this is not a place you want to work.

Advice to Management

- Cut online learning to bare minimum to meet all your legal requirements.

You really need to better communicate to customers you intentions for products that are nearing end of life cycle.

If you are an employee it is actually easier to look for a job outside of GE than it is inside GE.

    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I worked at GE Healthcare full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Without a doubt, the most knowledgeable and technically competent life science experts in the industry.
Front line sales, support, and service teams genuinely care for their customers.

    Cons

Advancement depends on who you know, not what you know. Nepotism abounds, especially in the service organization.
Management takes an adversarial approach to managing staff; poor morale as a direct result.

    Advice to Management

Do the right thing and quit. Let qualified leaders from the deep pool of talent in other GE businesses take over.

    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at GE Healthcare full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great training for management or technical leadership. Crotonville and GRC technical leadership programs are world class.
An opportunity to work with some of the best talent around the globe, at other design centers, and global research centers.

    Cons

Management skills appear to be of much higher value than technical expertise and skill. Even R&D management often has very little technical expertise in the domain they are managing, yet they have the most opportunity for advancement. Management has tried to introduce a technical career path several times but never successfully. There is too little actual movement with too much bureaucracy to make it credible.
They tend to be a fast follower more often than an innovator. Startup companies and even large competitors like Philips, have had strong technical innovators, while GE management invests in innovation after seeing the proof of concept elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Have a real Technical Career Path with less bureaucracy.
Shift focus back on customers and fund real strategic risky innovation that is customer directed.
Move production transfer functions and engineering under local common local management again for speed to market of innovation.
