I have been working at GE Healthcare full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Diversity and breadth of businesses allow employees to take their career in many different directions. Talent development programs through Crotonville are outstanding. Performance management methodology emphasizes both accomplishments and virtuous behaviors, so advancement requires collaboration.

    Cons

Frequent P&L reorganizations are disruptive. There is too much emphasis on operational measures, at the expense of client satisfaction. Senior leadership is often short-term focused and the company overall invests far too little on R&D given the size of GE. Employee compensation is typically below market. The health plan consists of three high deductable options and likely costs employees more out of pocket per year than they would find elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Sell those businesses where GE can’t be the best in the world. Invest the proceeds in long term Energy and Healthcare initiatives. Figure out how to better reward risk taking.
