    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at GE Transportation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

you get to work with talented people and exposure to a global business / GE on your resume is a step to a next and better job / pay is the only advantage based on the limited options and low pay at other Erie companies

    Cons

salaries are not competitive / no bonus or incentive comp / benefits reduce almost yearly / business is very cyclical which equates to semi-regular layoffs and salary freezes / career advancement is limited / HR is completely disengaged and provides no support / employee satisfaction and morale tends to be low / work-life balance is more of a slogan and not reality / vacation time is generous but using it is discouraged or disregarded (plan on answering emails and calls while on vacation and you'd better respond no matter what)

    Advice to Management

executives receiving a chairman's award as the best financially performing unit of the year in the company, and high-fiving each other on the stage while collecting bonuses is an insult to the employees who delivered those results for you and they're lucky if they receive (and convinced to be grateful for) an at best 3% COLA.

I worked at GE Transportation as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Opportunities for learning (workshops, Six Sigma, etc) and networking (intern committees). The experience of working for a large company with a fast paced work environment was invaluable. Workers were friendly and compensation was exceptional. Lots of flexibility.

    Cons

Overworked staff. Expectations of going "above and beyond" level of internship work (attending workshops, volunteering) or you won't receive extension was sometimes unreasonable. Lack of inclusion of interns by some middle-managers was a detriment to moral. Bureaucracy in getting things accomplished.

    Advice to Management

Reinforce to middle-managers that although we're interns, we're employees who work hard and want to maximize our experience by being included as staff, not a separate entity. Lack of inclusion a disservice to anyone as employee.
