You are a manager while being paid like an associate

    Pros

Learn managerial tasks, keyholder, prepare deposits. You can use your experience in doing tasks a retail manager does to leverage that into a manager's position at another company. You can get bonus commission or "PM's" for selling certain products, but that only works if you are in a store with enough traffic and people with money willing to buy expensive health products.

    Cons

I got about $9 an hour to do everything a manager does including opening and closing the store by myself, attending mandatory conference calls, talking to brand/product salesmen, taking the deposit from the register to the bank, counting the money in the register, etc. I was not made aware that cocaine dealers use a GNC powdered vitamin to cut their product, so on SEVERAL occasions I was completely alone with no cameras to witness stuff happen to me with cocaine dealers hitting on me and buying this powder. People also use GNC products to pass drug tests, but if they tell you that is what they are using it for, you are not allowed to sell to them. This angers people very much. Again I was completely alone with no cameras to deal with that fact.

    Pros

The only positive is the insurance and other benefits are decent.

    Cons

They say they value work life balance but you’re constantly bombarded with messages via an app and asked to work overtime or asked to overextend your part time employees. Even on your days off you have calls to be on. It’s not treated like a favor it’s treated like an expectation, one that counts against you if you don’t fulfill it. They don’t pay well at all. You can make more being a cashier at Whole Foods than you can running an entire store. They don’t have boundaries and ask a lot of their employees with little reward. Everyone is understaffed right now and the expectation is now back up where it was pre covid and not much has changed. If they paid pt and ft employees more they would have less turnover and more reliability. Unfortunately like most corporations corporate is very disconnected from the reality of being in stores day to day. They should take a page from bojangles and close for a couple days to give everyone a break but it seems profit is more important than anything else to this company.
