Pros

Once you are part of the team or in the know of the senior management/directors you are looked after in all matters save salary. You are able to take time off work as required for family reasons without affecting your overall holiday entitlement, which BTW is one of the most generous in any industry save teaching. IT is very good and you are provided with the equipment required to carry out your job. Flexible working hours are tolerated provided work does not suffer.

Cons

The longer you stay the further behind your salary will fall compared to the general market. The new T&C's are very generic in terms of what you get elsewhere, and only holiday exceeds other Contractors. Work Place Socialising used to be very good, however as GT has become a larger PLC this has become less practised. Company cars/allowances are poor.

Advice to Management

Do not promote someone just to give them more pay - increase the pay and more people will stay.

I worked at Galliford Try full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

They will throw training at you whether or not you need it so to gain skills they're good unless you're below management level in which case you've no chance. Money is ok about on par with most.

    Cons

Extremely unhelpful when it comes to help with on site decision making, I've known site managers struggle to make decisions they should NOT be making and only got through the problem because they are well versed in the "Galliford Way". If you are looking for long term employment then look elsewhere these really aren't for you.

    Advice to Management

Upper management HAS to start listening and getting involved with their site TEAM not just manager but all of us who work on site and that way you'll find these problems before they arise and workarounds can be thought of before its too late as normal, also start building roads and sewers BEFORE you get your eyes on the prize and put a full house up and leave everyone to work on an uneven and highly dangerous site.
