I worked at GameStop part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Insider information if you love video games, and a store discount. Learn more about games. Helping bring games to the larger public.

    Cons

Customers can be rude, like any retail job. Lots of standing on your feet all day. Lots of small detail work. The company stands by the saying the customer is always right and has it's employees bend it's rules for customers.

I have been working at GameStop full-time

    Pros

Lots of swag, free games etc. The ability to borrow games, and get an employee discount. Store Manager Conference is alot of fun, and exciting, especially if you like gaming.

    Cons

Poor payroll. Long work hours. Little to no recognition. Constant communication from your District Manager, even on your vacation and days off. (Phone Calls and E-mail contact that require Immediate Response)

You have to work 44 hour work weeks, and get paid only for 40. There are times when the company needs to save money on payroll, so they make the Managers of the stores work 50 hours, as a mandatory requirement.

During the Holidays they force Managers to work 6 Day work weeks, and none of this "Overtime" is re-imbursed at a 1.5x rate. They just give you another day off in February, March, or April. They should be providing 1.5 days per normal overtime rates as monetary compensation or in some sort of Compensatory capacity.

    Advice to Management

Spend a holiday season working in the stores with us and really see what it takes to run one of these businesses. The payroll that is provided is terrible during the year, and at times even worse during the holiday season. Stop whatever you are doing in the Ivory Tower, and take a peek down to see how we are doing. You just might stop to re-think some of your current policies and payroll systems.
