Pros

You get to talk about something you love - games! It's fun to help people find something that they will also enjoy. There is a certain sense of satisfaction when you help a parent to understand the pros and cons to letting their kids play certain games. You can borrow games to try them out before you buy them.

Cons

Pay is very low - minimum wage. The company changes the amount of hours each store has, sometimes midweek, meaning that you can lose shifts with little notice. They force you to push their programs, such as their rewards card and pre-orders, and you will lose hours, or even your job, if you don't aggressively push it on customers.

Advice to Management

Realize that you don't really pay your employees anything, and you should be able to let two people work at the same time. When you give the store less hours than the number of hours the store is open, you are doing a disservice to your customers. Also, when your employees have to push the cards and preorders so hard, it makes customers feel pressured and more likely to purchase games for the same price or less at competitors, such as Best Buy or Amazon.

    Advice to Management

DMs, RMs, and Corporate should empower stores by giving them the necessary hours to staff adequately for the given day. The current motto involves staffing the BARE MINIMUM while obtaining the maximum return in sales given that minimum. This results in SGAs, ASMs, and SMs being overworked. Hours should not be awarded strictly on performance, there should be a baseline that delivers a consistent experience and expectation among employees. At all times there should be at least two part time associates working along keyholders to get RSBs, Category, and Perpetual counts done. Managers are intended to maintain the operations of a store while resolving customer service issues. There is little structure involved with training, and the existing computer / phone self report format is terrible. This company burns money on marketing materials, expanding business ventures, and unnecessary perks for its highest management. Also, give employees a better discount, the markup on used games is absurd for the pittance offered. Make Store Managers hourly instead of salaried; the only reason for salary pay is so that hourly state laws (such as overtime, or work limits) are not called into effect. This company is purely about taking a customer's income and using its associates as the vessels for doing so. There is NO culture, this is strictly retail and not a job you want (unless you absolutely have to).
