I worked at GameStop full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Fun environment, good people to work with, get to talk about gaming all day, in control of your own business, conference is amazing. Overall a fun place to work, my district was particularly great. A lot of good people in the stores and everyone works together and helps each other out when needed.

Cons

In management you work far more than most expect. You will work more than upper management seems to think. Compensation doesn't line up with the amount of work you will have to do in order to "meet the needs of the business" You're in customer service so keep in mind that you will meet a lot of great people but also have to deal with some that are just awful. Unless you want to be a DM or RM there is little advancement. Most advancement seems like a lateral move.

Advice to Management

Remember what its like being an SM. Don't make things complicated. Be realistic with your estimates of times to complete tasks rather than sugar coat things.

I worked at GameStop part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Discounts on certain items.
    - Cool swag to take.
    - Overtime (If lucky).

    Cons

    - Lack of consistent hours for part and full-time employees after post season, sooooo you will be put on call for more than 10 weeks.
    - Can not keep any promise(s) to ANY employee, including store managers where they put all their blood, sweat, tears, and effort into the company and store.
    - District and/or Regional Manager(s) cuts hours to the store for no reason. Even IF that specific store got the right amount of pro cards (both renewal and new) and reserves for any game.

    Advice to Management

(From the Regional Manager all the way up to Raines:) PLEASE change the business model! The marketing and pricing is so skewed to the point both employees and customers question it because of the unfair nature of it depending on the game. And where I worked at I could've had more than the required amount of people signing up for the pro card but the problem with that was THEY WERE CANADIANS!! You have no idea how frustrating that is.
