I worked at GameStop full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

Videogames, not the hardest product to sell. Sales quotas are realistic, reasonable. Potentially awesome coworkers and bosses. I rarely met anyone at the company I didn't like, but when you do encounter that person it can be a trip.

Cons

Long workweeks sometimes, especially during the holidays. Increasingly corporate structure which isn't necessarily making money/increasing profits. Easy to hit a ceiling and become complacent.

Advice to Management

Empower your people. DMs are even better assets than store managers in some cases, but they're so overworked.

    Pros

Up to date information on upcoming games
Free use of games that have just come out

    Cons

Constant pressure to meet unrealistic goals
Implementation of selling technique required. Selling technique does not work and serves to anger customers
Unjust compensation. No matter how much you sell or how many upgrades, you will be compensated no differently
Job seems as if it should be commission based yet is an hourly position with no further compensation

I have been working at GameStop full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people we bring into the organization are some of retail's finest. Is it challenging? Yes, but rewarding. Understand, this is an organization that deals with all walks of life- those that fail to realize it, fail. Those that want to stand around to collect a check- not the place to be.

If you want a challenge, where change is constant, and hold yourself to high standards- APPLY.

    Cons

Gossip is terrible in stores. Sometimes dealing with the general public can be a challenge. Yes long hours are associated with the role- it's okay because your around unique merchandise and great people.
