I worked at Gander Mountain part-time (More than a year)

Pros

Flexible hours and great perks. Great amount of sales experience gained on the job.

Cons

High sales expectations after little to no positional training. Learned mostly from customers, making my own mistakes and from other helpful employees. Applied for tuition reimbursement for full-time college; denied benefits using shady, possibly illegal technicality about hours worked, after agreeing to reimburse but denying payment after upholding my end.

Advice to Management

If employee discounts and benefits are offered as incentives to increase product knowledge and as perks for selling those products, and are open to all employees; don't withdraw your support or change your stance after agreeing to benefit if employee fully qualifies. It comes across as petty and devalues the trust placed in you as a manager.
