I worked at Gannett full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Sales staff was mostly nice, short commute, health and vacation benefits were ok,

    Cons

Unorganized management with no direction, changing company mission statement all the time, terrible training of sales staff, constant furloughs, terrible commission plan which leads to unmotivated sales staff and also not getting quality employees hired, completely clueless in digital advertising from top to bottom, upper management has clique that doesn't care about employees at all,

    Advice to Management

Get your S*** together! Put together competitive commission and salary plans for your sales staff to draw in quality employees. Get quality products to sell that will actually benefit your customers, Enough with the "Powerful Solutions" mumbo jumbo-- the products you are selling DO NOT WORK. You are ripping off your customers. Get everyone on the same page and get people in positions that know what they are doing. Stop hiring and promoting your pals based on no experience. Improve training and don;'t do it through threats and tests .. if the sales staff doesnt want to learn .. get people in a position that will learn. Wayyyyy too lenient to keep sales staff on when they dont know what they are doing, and yet when furloughs come around it seems you randomly fire people. Makes no sense... make personnel decisions at the right times.
