I have been working at Gap part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Quality store with nice products that are always changing. Employees get a nice discount. Some good people to work with.

    Cons

Not much recognition of hard work if you don't get Gap Cards. Will schedule you for the longest shift that requires the fewest breaks for associates. (i.e. 7 1/2 hours not 8)

    Advice to Management

Need a more consist leadership with better understating of expectations of associates. Make it a more positive place to work. Don't have associates that just worked a 7 hour day also close the store.

I worked at Gap part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Discount across the brands
-Easy tasks when not over loaded

    Cons

-Being left alone at all times so it is very hard to do anything other than watch the door, but if you don't man the fitting rooms or refold anything in back, you're a lazy employee, or it's always your fault something is stolen while you're checking on something else.
-It became very apparent that there was no room for improvement and that management is only that because they are all a clique.
-When a manager realizes you are actually competent, they will give you a ton of jobs with high expectations and a fast turn around time, but will not compensate you for your efforts.

    Advice to Management

-Don't gossip about your employees to your employees. Act like the adult you are.
-Don't call someone mediocre when you have never seen them work because you are too scared to go into the Body department. You should be able to pick up panties without crying or barfing.
-Please treat your employees with respect and integrity. I shouldn't have to ask to use the bathroom over a walkie-talkie so everyone, including customers, can hear. Also, beating around the bush about hours, lying about how important the employee being themselves is, unless they aren't wearing all Gap clothing or have tattoos and piercings.
-Please pay more attention to your employees so you can see who really doesn't want to be there. That way you don't mistakenly give them the highest merit increase and that person tells everyone about it. When you pay even a slight amount of attention, it becomes very obvious who is best for the brand.
-Don't judge someones worth based on how many Gap cards they can sell. It was very difficult to have people sign up for a credit card when the economy is in bad shape, and it's horrible to try to entice young people into even more debt.
