I have been working at General Mills full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Amazing work life balance. Good pay, people, and benefits. Relatively low stress environment. The twin cities is a wonderful location, if you are alright with cold winters.

Cons

There are occasionally too many meetings. We went through a downsizing last year that was tough on morale. Amount of travel can be a lot depending upon the position and project.

Advice to Management

Improve meeting effectiveness.

I worked at General Mills full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

General Mills provides excellent training in the discipline of business including all the legal and ethical issues that surround day-to-day decisions. When calling on customers, you hold your head high in who you're representing.

    Cons

Decisions can be slow because of the bureaucracy and levels of approvers that need to weigh in on many decisions. Marketing and sales need to understand each other's roles better to be even more effective.

    Advice to Management

Keep the discipline. It is a rare thing in many industries today.

I have been working at General Mills full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Smart, hardworking employees.
Half day Fridays in the summer if you can take them

    Cons

Benefits are competitive, not great. While I expect work to have its busy times, employees constantly run at over capacity and no concept of work/life balance. Promotions based on who has a high visibility role and not necessarily hard work.

    Advice to Management

Realize that some roles are some roles are set up for success and others are set up for failure. Performance is also affected by external circumstances and poor managers.
