I worked at Genesis HealthCare full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Continuing Ed resources. They have some very good, dedicated persnnel. Fairly good computerized note program, not too complicated except for the ipods....

Cons

Too much middle management, non-productive personnel, need to push productive personnel more to make up the productivity. Company seems just too specialized with upper level personnel, those above the rehab manager level, who are good people but are also non-productive and get nice salaries, I'm sure. That leaves the burden of producing on....guess who? Somebody has to bring in the income to pay for anyone in a non-productive position.
Plus, the company is just getting too big, they will buy up smaller contract companies

Advice to Management

Don't grow too fast. Consolodate those non-productive positions. Sell the tiny ipods and get real equipment like more laptops

I have been working at Genesis HealthCare full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

some facilities are good others not so much

    Cons

the administrators and the DONs are the main foundation on which the facility is built..if they are bad then forget the facility it will stink

    Advice to Management

treat your employees better and trust me the job ain,t worth the pay plus the extra poor treatment. that;s why you loose so many employees yearly

"Good company, but too much hierarchy to care about the employees in reality"

I have been working at Genesis HealthCare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They care about their patients, and despite reimbursement, continue to provide the therapy necessary for a full recovery based on therapist's analysis.

    Cons

Employees are expected to work overtime, yet not allowed to work over 8 hours. They are not realistic with the time put into documentation and technological failure. It is a huge stress on everyone in the department, and since it has been implemented the quality of the treatments have deteriorated. Also, the flexibility required for each therapist has gone to the extreme, with being sent home at a moment's notice, if there isn't enough treatments for all therapists, or staying overtime, if we don't have enough therapists to meet the expectations.

    Advice to Management

Care about your employees and the reality of the difficulty of their job, just as much as you care about your patients.
