I worked at Georgia Tech Research Institute part-time

Pros

- very smart and friendly employees
- your work is often on the cutting edge and/or has never been tried before
- flexible schedules
-lots of vacation time

Cons

-pay is good enough starting out, but forget about raises above inflation level
-a general lack of urgency in completing work (I guess that may be a plus for some)
-people are coasting on the all of the DOD work that comes in and there's a general lack of interest in diversifying
-the promotion structure is extremely rigid

Advice to Management

Diversify your award portfolio, otherwise I do not see any growth happening soon

I worked at Georgia Tech Research Institute as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

variety of projects (defense, transportation, agriculture, etc.), relaxed environment, highest co-op salary offer

    Cons

big gender gap (~30 people in the lab, 4 women), occasional double standards, dealing with poultry (dead, alive, and everything in between)

    Advice to Management

hold interns to the same level of accountability; it also looks bad to hire the girl intern on at a lower salary for the same projects

I have been working at Georgia Tech Research Institute as an intern (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great environment, Good benefits, really good people. I worked for GTRI for several years and everything I worked on was really interesting and cutting edge.

    Cons

Downtown Atlanta. The area at GTRI is right in the heart of Atlanta so if you live outside of the city it can be quite a drive.

    Advice to Management

Some people are under utilized. In my department, there were several people that consistently underperformed, while others went above and beyond. I really enjoyed my employment there, but was ready to make a change to a different role.
