I worked at GlaxoSmithKline full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Great people, pay and benefits.

Cons

Replacing full time employees with off-source workers and contractors so historical knowledge is being lost. Those employees that remain are frustrated continuously teaching the new people. Little regard for the quality of products being delivered by IT, more concerned with being on budget and on time.

Advice to Management

There is no substitute for loyal employees. Replacing IT employees that know the business and truly care about the quality of the delivered product with outsourced workers/contractors who have no vested interest in the company will lead to frustrated end users.

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay, excellent benefits, the people I worked with were great!!!

    I'd like to go back...

    Cons

I would have given 5 stars except there is ALWAYS the threat of layoffs.

Andrew Witty took over, he got on stage and bragged about how good a job we had done, how good a shape the company was in, how much cash the company had available. Then a week later he announced 5,000 jobcuts. You guessed it, my "position was eliminated".

    Advice to Management

No company ever cost-cut its way to good R&D.

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

People are great, work was meaningful, teamwork was impressive (Environment, Health & Safety Department)

    Cons

Typical corporate red tape. Takes longer than needed to get simple things done (i.e. need to email 2 or 3 people to track down an invoice)

    Advice to Management

Stay personable and continue to attract the good characters that you already do.
