I have been working at Global Communities full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

International travel opportunity
Lower echelons: hard working, dedicated, intelligent group of people
Promoting positive change...for the most part

Cons

Lacks strong, sound leadership
Horrible inter-department communication and collaboration
Low morale, and mgmt could care less

Advice to Management

Put the same time and energy into your people as they put into your organization
A simple Thank You goes a long way...and don't wait until they leave to tell them

I have been working at Global Communities full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Colleagues are mostly easy going and flexible (unlike management). There are many wonderful people, with diverse experiences and skill sets, both at headquarters and on the field

    Cons

Overworking junior level staff. Very low pay compared to other NGOs, resulting in frequent staff turnover. The management looks out only for themselves.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to find ways to maintain staff retention and boost employee morale. It is no coincidence that the only people who've been there over two years are all VPs and directors.

    Pros

You're a part of good work that benefits people around the globe. Non-profit, excellent benefits.

    Cons

CHF is over-reliant on CHF grants. When a project ends, so can one's employment.

    Advice to Management

Don't just talk about and plan to increase private funding, make it happen. Also, don't keep your staff in the dark.
