I have been working at Global Healthcare Exchange full-time

Pros

I've enjoyed working at GHX. Its mostly a laid back environment, and you don't have management on your back. You're expected to know your role, and how to accomplish it on your own daily.

Cons

Very distributed company. There is not much cohesion between teams and feels as if everyone is on their own at times

    Pros

If you're lucky to be under one of the few excellent managers left, work/life balance is acceptable. Occasional telecommuting is common, which is great for a tech-based company. Great for people who want to learn and use many skills on the job-- just don't expect to be compensated for them with commensurate promotions or raises. Yearly bonuses are decent, but never outstanding unless you've secured a senior management contract. Better for building a resume than following a career path.

    Cons

Low faith in job security. Corporate culture depends on dept, but there is certainly a 'good ol boy' network still in place in senior management-- a few are quite sexist and demeaning to female staff. Lost most of the 'brains' behind the operation following years of lay-offs and departures of quality employees. Be ready for chaotic and ever-changing processes. Feedback and innovative suggestions are always requested but rarely heeded.

    Advice to Management

Clean out some of the good ol boy club, and go after some high quality resources to get back on the cutting edge. You have some people with great ideas-- but force follow-through and quality for your applications or you'll continue to fight the up hill battle of customer satisfaction.

    Pros

Relative to it's size, the company is having a very significant impact on reducing costs within healthcare. The culture appeals to people who like to solve problems, are entrepreniural and are self motivated. The company has good financial stability, great prospects for continued growth, and offers it's employees competitive pay, very good benefits, and relatively good work life balance.

    Cons

The entreprenurial culture won't work well for people who desire a lot of stracture and defined process in their work. If you like to plug into a system and have your road to succes mapped out for you by someone else, you likely won't care for the culture. The organization appeals more to self-starters and independent problem solvers.

    Advice to Management

Continue to invest in your people - not just their skills, but also their opportunities for even greater life work balance.
