You work with great people, teamwork is emphasized. Opportunity to learn a lot of things, and you get exposure to different areas

    Cons

Long hours, low pay, high expectations, limited mobility, promote certain ideas but don't actually follow through with it, pushing great employees past their breaking point

I worked at Goldman Sachs full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Was with their flag-ship quantitative-style hedge fund called "Global Alpha". Good place to start a career in the quantitative investment business with this formerly legendary place and learning with the research tycoons there. Also, unlike the siloed and secretive cultures of many other top-tier quantitative funds, the culture of the "Global Alpha" team was very open and fostering, getting rookies exposures into a wide spectrum of asset classes and trading strategies.

    Cons

The fund leads were too ostriched with their success 7 to 10 years ago, and showed little competence in keeping up with the fast evolution of the quantitative investing business as well as the innovation frontiers. No wonder performance-wise, the business lagged much behind newer-generation competitors who are much savvier in adopting new techniques. Lousy performance lead to lousy pays (rule of thumb in the hedge fund industry).

    Advice to Management

Apparently Goldman Sachs Asset Management is decisively retreating from the high-fee hedge fund type of businesses in the quantitative investment industry, as senior management is aware that they no long has the best talents, team, strategies and infrastructures as it did before the mid 2000s.
