Approves of CEO

I have been working at Goldman Sachs full-time (More than a year)

Pros

-Very smart people
-Certain groups have reduced workload and encourage at least 1 day off per weekend
-Unparalleled infrastructure to support employees: food, fitness, travel
-Lectures given by well-known people

Cons

-Experiences can very significantly across divisions and groups (can be a pro)
-No work/life balance
-Passive aggressive behavior the norm
-Not much self-reflection on the firm's business and its impact on the economy and world

    Approves of CEO

I worked at Goldman Sachs full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Great compensation
    Opportunity to grow your skills
Working with bright people makes you better
Builds you up to be confident
    Great employee training available
    Performance based recognition

    Cons

    Long hours
High performance expected - if you are a slacker dont apply here.

    Advice to Management

Not every organizational change should be kept a BIG secret for too long before announcement. The secrecy only escalates anxiety amongst employees and creates unnecessary paranoia.

  2. "Exceptional, highly-stressed and competitive people struggling to like their jobs and each other in a global sweatshop."

I worked at Goldman Sachs full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

People are exceptional, resources are stellar, compensation is good, prestige is high, hierarchy is complex: feels very flat in day-to-day activities (see cons), great diversity.

    Cons

Hours are long, stress is HIGH, turnover is high, work can be dull, hierarchy: there's an "us vs. them" aspect to partners vs. the rest of the field, networking is mandatory and thus becomes mechanical and insincere.

    Advice to Management

Only hire people who actually care about finance. Too many insanely smart yet miserable people who land the job for their credentials and intelligence, but really shouldn't be there.
