I have been working at Google as a contractor (Less than a year)

Pros

All of Google's famous job perks for working at headquarters

Cons

They took away our ability to bill for overtime part-way through our contract and greatly diminished our annual salary ranging from $20k-$40k per year.

Advice to Management

If management plans on changing compensation mid-contract at least provide a few weeks notice instead of telling everyone the weekend before so that no one can make preparation to the sudden change in pay. It was extremely upsetting for everyone on the team.

I have been working at Google full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Focused on long-term investments, focused on changing the world (versus creating silly social toy apps like the rest of the Valley)

    Cons

Massively large scale means slower development

    Advice to Management

Think of your team members as human beings, not robots. I see that this happens on other teams. If you aren't a people-person, then don't be a manager. My manager thinks of our team as people, he invests in us, he is dedicated to our career development... This is what makes my manager awesome. If you aren't interested in those things, then why are you a manager or a lead? You would do the company better by being an all-star engineer/designer/salesperson/.../ whatever you were before.
