I have been working at Government of British Columbia full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

The BC Gov't is very friendly to flexible workdays and to balancing work and family. There are lots of opportunities for education. I completed the first two modules of my Project Management Professional education through their internal education. There are also great opportunities for young women.

Cons

The older, more "entrenched" Government employees are sticklers for the red tape - innovation/thinking outside the box is not encouraged, and there is a very strong "union" mentality about hours worked, breaks, etc. The department where I work is small and we work very hard and are very innovative, however whenever you have to deal with other sections, it can be very frustrating how slowly people work.
