Pros

Good people in individual departments. Management is generally reasonable.

Cons

Some of the policies seem to be from when the school was a small college. Some ideas seem out of date

I worked at Grand Valley State University part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Stability of Allendale - primarily from the school's institution.
Stability with Grand Rapids as a growing metropolitan. Grand Valley has the advantage of being both "University of Michigan" creating Allendale to be its own type of "Ann Arbor" and "Wayne State University" utilizing Grand Rapids as its own type of "Detroit".
There is flexibility with work schedule and life balance. This come from a good mix of professionals and college students existing and utilizing the same space.
Grand Valley capitalizes on the opportunity to progress with Grand Rapids

    Cons

Change takes time and the right people supporting. Understand the politics to have change occur.

I have been working at Grand Valley State University as an intern (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great "family" atmosphere among employees, particularly within the same department. Everyone looks after each other. Great campus with beautiful facilities.

    Cons

The "higher-ups" are pretty stuck-up and take credit for positive things but are quick to place the blame for anything negative.
