    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

Collegial setting. Benefits can be good, though University makes liberal use of adjunct appointments including for staff, eliminating the need to provide job security or full benefits.

    Cons

Incompetent management at various levels. University-wide initiatives often implemented hastily and without adequate communication, training, or quality assurance evaluation or feedback. For the most part, various departments/divisions are run like "fiefdoms," and staff treated like chattel. Management self-preservation is paramount at all costs.

    Advice to Management

Knee-jerk management is not a quality of a "world-class" higher education institution. GVSU lacks a clear-cut mission and set of guiding principles to which senior management should be held accountable -- not just in words, but deeds.

I have been working at Grand Valley State University as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Scholarship. Stipend. Teaching experience. Meet new student every semester. Learned mechanical engineering skills ( although being EE) as well. Learned how to operate machines Lathe, CNC etc. Review of programming, Solidworks. I'm head GA managing other GA's, it gave me the platform to showcase my managerial and leadership skills.

    Cons

Repetitive works after couple of semester
