I have been working at Greenville Health System full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

On the unit I work the nursing staff gives excellent care and is concerned with customer satisfaction.

Cons

As is the case with most hospitals, staffing adequately every day is the biggest problem. Scheduling is designed for budget so there is no wiggle room with increased census or sick employees. Management and ancillary nursing staff rarely come out of the offices to actually help with patient care.

Advice to Management

Get rid of the managers that are low performers and actually run off your nursing staff. Cut the middle management, educators, and others who don't actually provide care. They are often hindrances rather than facilitators. Use your healthcare dollars for hands on caregivers. We have some of the best nurses around. Help them do what they do best instead of constantly checking up on them.

I have been working at Greenville Health System full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Very involved in the community, very patient care oriented, a beautiful atmosphere for your healthcare stay and on the cutting edge of technology, both medically and programatically. You will get the latest and greatest care if you come to GHS.

    Cons

Some employee benefits get lost in the shuffle, which causes some resentments.

    Advice to Management

Remember that employees are your best advertisement. Treated great, you get great PR, taking options away, doesn't make for good satisfaction nor excitement about coming to work.

I worked at Greenville Health System full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Working within the hospital system allows you to become familiar with the physicians in the area and in the network, so that you know who you would want to participate in your healthcare if needed.

    Cons

Poor utilization of the physician office nurses, with no advancement available. This is especially true for the LPN's which are only used in these offices. If you work outside of the hospital in one of the physician offices, there is no "true" time off for what they consider paid holidays. If the office is closed and you do not have enough hours in your own PTO bank to cover the day off, you do not get paid, so in order to get paid for a so-called holiday, you have to use your own PTO......that is not providing paid holidays. Only hospital staff, really get paid hoilday time off, as they may work the holiday, get paid time and a half for working, and then get another day off with pay without using their own PTO at all.

    Advice to Management

Need to have opportunities for LPN's to move from clinical care to other areas of nursing, as the RN"s do without telling them that if they are requesting this, they may have loss their compassionate if they request to do so. Also, all clinical staff should be rewarded the same amount of PTO accrual. Currently, LPN's are looked down on within this organization, and do not rget the same respect as the RN's . That is why, they are only allowed to work in the physician offices, and do not accrue time as quickly as other clinical staff, they are listed under the non- professional catargory. ****************when you have a good nurse, value her/him without regard to LPN or RN.............alot of LPN's have more knowledge, and/or experience then the RN's .
