I have been working at Group Health full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Health benefits and paid time off are fantastic. Some very smart and interesting people. Salaries are getting better and an improved effort on training managers.

Cons

It goes through cycles of spending and drastic reductions. Some people go there to retire and only do the minimum required. People who work hard only get a pat on the back and a smile.

Advice to Management

Find ways to motivate and reward staff, the mission itself is not enough.

I worked at Group Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Benefits
Don't have to work very hard
As long as you don't challenge your boss or any executives you'll be fine

    Cons

Non existent strategy. Realization that this is the case leads to copying of what other system's strategies were years ago.
Shifting away from all values to focus only on the $
Fails to make decisions or execute.
Tenure matters. Feels a bit like a union shop in the leadership ranks. Promotion by sticking around.

    Advice to Management

Sell to someone like Kasier who truly values and cares about integrated healthcare

I have been working at Group Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A lot of very nice people who strongly believe in the organization's mission
    Good benefits
    Work life balance

    Cons

Over the last several years, GH hasn't made money, and very little has been done about it. Now they're slicing and dicing -- reorging and laying off employees. But what about the "leaders" who got the organization into this terrible spot? They're not leaving. They're making the decisions about the new structure, and really, they're not quailified.

Aside from this, Group Health is a very old-fashioned organization that talks A LOT about changing, but doesn't ever really do it. The systems are antiquated, and the attitude is "this is how we've always done it, so why change?" After just a few years of working here, I started worrying about my skills becoming out-of-date, so I've found a new job.....and just in the nick of time! (Oh, and the salaries are low.)

    Advice to Management

Embrace the future and the technology that will get you there.
