Some business decisions not in best interest of patient care or lean practices.

Advice to Management

Consider how decisions on insurance side affect provider's ability to provide good patient care.

I worked at Group Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent benefits and good people to work with. A place you want to come to work because you believe in the mission of transforming health care for the better.

    Cons

The organization is in serious financial trouble and has a very unclear future. Recent layoffs were poorly managed and "survivors" are demoralized. Executive leadership completely dysfunctional. Not enough women in the senior leadership ranks.
No internal career advancement opportunities - a good place to go when you're already at your desired position and want to coast until retirement.

I worked at Group Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The service side seems to genuinely care about its patients. They do a lot with what they have to work with.

    Cons

The business end operates on principles that are near criminal in nature. They've adopted Lean/agile principles, but incorrectly utilize these principles to improve the appearance of performance, rather than a barometer of improvement. Bottom line: how can you work for a company where senior management openly give each other high fives after completing a project that limits doctors from issuing possibly lifesaving tests just to save the company money.

    Advice to Management

Try to remember that the sole purpose of your organization is never to do harm. You're not a corporation. Why act like one?
