I have been working at Group Health as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

The opportunity to work in a health system that has an integrated health plan and delivery system is valuable. The focus on constant process improvement and quality is exciting and makes the work your doing valuable. Group Health has made it evident that the patient experience is of most importance. This is evident throughout the Co-op.

Cons

The majority of employees have worked in the organization for their entire career and don't have an outside perspective. This though attests to the work environment and how great it can be.

I worked at Group Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They provide competitive pay, good benefits. Commute options include vans to and from the train, subsidized bus passes, some telecommuting.

    Cons

Likely to be more layoffs. It's hard to take time off with limited resources to cover for you. Unless you're there for at least 10 years, don't count on "Forever" for job security. It's just the nature of the industry right now.

    Advice to Management

Try to get more accomplished - the consensus philosophy can be paralyzing. Lean isn't always applicable to every function. Don't have useless meetings where there is no new information. It wastes time and frustrates people.

I have been working at Group Health full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Very generous compensation for my field. CE's and licensing dues paid for. Collaborative work environment.

    Cons

Some business decisions not in best interest of patient care or lean practices.

    Advice to Management

Consider how decisions on insurance side affect provider's ability to provide good patient care.
