I worked at Group Health full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Excellent benefits; efficient; knowledgeable management. Changes were well thought out and delivered in an organized fashion. Good communication across the organization. High expectations.

Cons

Fear based management. Older staff bullied new staff. Raises were quite poor. Management unrealistic in expectaions of volume and quality. When volume expectations are too high it is difficult to maintain the 100% expectation of quality and vice versa. I didn't feel they cared about the quality of health care provided to our members. Due to the focus on volume (metrics) staff just wanted to rush to get the job done in order to meet the metrics.

Advice to Management

Promote an environment where old staff are held accountable for being unkind.Too much time is taken by tracking our work which takes away time from being able to perform our job functions. Simplify that process. People are not computers or robots.

I have been working at Group Health full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Employees believe in the mission and genuinely care about delivering excellent patient care.

    Cons

Lack of good leadership in some key areas. Sometimes it feels like changes and decisions in one area are in direct conflict with other areas within the organization.

    Advice to Management

The organization needs to be agile to keep up with changes in a volatile industry, but too much change at once continues to be a stress on employees.

I worked at Group Health full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

-Benefits are good (health, dental, vision, retirement).

-PTO (accrues quickly and increases the longer you've been employed there).

    Cons

-No job security (endless layoffs, outsourcing, demotions, etc.).

-Emotionally immature managers who purposely surround themselves with under-performing butt-kissers in order to make themselves looks smarter.

-Management by intimidation. Every phone call and keystroke are recorded. There is no level of trust for the employees. Employees forced to be superficial and robotic, rather than be a real person, else likely to be fired.

    -Favoritism is rampant!

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the inept mid to senior level management who are causing the company to have such a poor reputation as a place to work.
