Pros

Free Diet Coke and Vitamin Water all day!

Cons

Grab your headset, get ready to call and call and then do some more calling. That's all you will do. The idea of advancement after working for the company for 6 months is a joke, you'll learn this from the disgruntled individuals sitting next to you who have been there for 9 months or a year. You'll probably start off with some warm leads and then just start cold calling like crazy. I was placed into a market that had already been called on for 2 years by 9 other people. If you want to work in telemarketing, this is a great gig. If you want to be part of a startup, offer input and help develop any sort of useful strategies, you'll be thoroughly disappointed at Groupon.

Advice to Management

At least pretend to listen to the sales staff regarding changes/ideas. Don't take weak accounts just to hit numbers, it does no good. And stop changing the commission structure and monthly goals every week.

    good people ( the one's who actually work hard- the sales and support team)
    lots of subscribers
    good technology

    Cons

    There are too many layers and people just telling others what to do.
    No respect for the sales team or how hard they work. Compensation is weak
    Change in senior management and new sales management approx 2 months ago - since then
    its been horrible work environment. Everyone is miserable and they treat the customers ( merchants) as well as employees with little respect. All they care about is how much money groupon makes.

    This USED to be about helping others now it is ALL about them. They don't care about their employees and it shows. They are going to LOSE their top sales reps becasue they do not treat them well.

    They also created a "boiler" room environment and micromange to the 100th degree.
    They suffocate you and you can barely breath or go to the bathroom with out feeling guilty.

    - This used to be a work hard play hard fun place but not anymore. Its an awful environment now.

    Advice to Management

    Andrew- you should see how miserable your sales team is now. Step up and be the CEO you used to be.

    Not a technologically advanced company
    High pressure sales teams lead to bad deals

    Advice to Management

    Take a realistic look at your business model. Be honest with your successes AND your failures. Don't be afraid to admit you actually aren't doing that well in key markets. Do not create an environment where young reps make bad deals because they are so stressed to make their quota. Businesses lose, and Groupon loses because the merchant has a bad experience and creates bad press and bad word of mouth.
