I have been working at Guardsmark full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Regular hours. That covers the pluses

Cons

"Raise" every 18-24 months is really a bump up of the starting rate, so you're there 5 days or 5 years, you get the same pay.
Free medical if you're single with no dependents, if you can find a dr. who takes it.
I was there 7 years, went through 4 site supervisors, and 4 shift supervisors before I was asked if I was interested in the super's job.

Advice to Management

Recognize the good employees you have.

    Pros

    Plenty of hours, issued uniforms, regular shifts, outstanding supervisor

    Cons

    Minimal advancement opportunity
    Low pay
    Nice dress pants that require alterations and dry cleaning which the guard cannot afford

    Advice to Management

    Change college degree requirement to allow competitive experience to be a Manager
    Pay for uniform alterations (hemming of pants) after 90 days to improve professional appearance
    Learn something about Leadership which is different from Supervision and Management as it requires earning respect by giving respect of your workers (Think about the TV show "Undercover Boss" where management actually has a concerned conversation with an empoyee)
    If you haven't thought about employee morale EVERY day, then you just don't get it.
    Oh, and performance should trump the-good-old-boy network. (Performance meaning your actual security personnel, not your sales force)

    if you are head strong they get rid of you.

    to stop using their position for personal gain.
