I have been working at Guardsmark full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Pay is fair at most clients in my area. They will try and keep you should you need to transfer to another city.

Cons

Promotions are slow to those whom do not have college degrees yet have far more experience . Medical benefits are only good as major coverage not for preventative care.

Advice to Management

Train mid-level managers better.

I have been working at Guardsmark full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Monthly training provided via small chapter reading (usually 5-10 pages) on various security topics.
No co-pay health insurance for full-time employees.

    Cons

    Advancement is difficult.
Zero overtime policy strictly enforced to the level if the relieving guard is late for a shift, the guard who stays late has his/her scheduled adjusted to avoid overtime during the week.
Zero sick time and vacations are often bought back by the company to avoid paying overtime for officer coverage.

    Advice to Management

Open up opportunities to employees i.e. open positions should be internally posted vs. finding them on job sites such as Jobing or Indeed.
Allow for a reasonable sick policy of 5 days for the year for full-time employees.
Offer higher pay for hourly employees.

I worked at Guardsmark full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

for drilling sites it was easy work
decent pay for type of work
    gave many chances for mishaps.

    Cons

secretive (supervisors kept important information about layoffs to themselves, and also important info to make them look good to higher management/the client)
didnt buy appropriate uniforms to save for their year-end bonuses
raises were not given as written in handbook
other benefits not given as stated in handbook
the position given was a joke when came to dealing with contract holder if they had disagreement.

    Advice to Management

If you are a security firm; be just that. When you pick up a contract you should complete the demands of the contract but be aware that you have been in the business for many years and just because the client doesnt like the way it goes at certain times dont back down. you should know how to do things better. It also makes your guards look weak and have no type of authority when dealing with the contract holder when THEY disobey your guidelines and then you buckle to their disobedience because you dont want to lose the contract. If your business is about safety don't change something because the client doesnt like it. Sometimes they don't know any better.
