I have been working at Gymboree full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Wear jeans to work.
Don't have to cook dinner (you'll never be home in time)
Stay in shape (you'll double as the stock boy)

    Cons

60 hour work week is the norm not the exception for SM.
No payroll to support tasks or training.
Inventory mgmt is antiquated (circa 1970).
Biz model designed for low volume rural stores! High volume, urban stores are left out of the thought process when it comes to planning and allocation.
There is a "burn em & turn em" culture here. Don't worry about getting great training. They only plan to work you to the bone until you quit.

    Advice to Management

Upper management should work in a store for a week. Try to put your dumb ideas into practicd before you roll them out. Create an environment where employees can provide honest feedback and not feel like there will be repercussions for doing so. If you really want to save on payroll close stores invest more into those that are most profitable and really promote your Internet business. Payroll & LP issues resolved! BTW you could save so many task hours by not hard marking markdowns so often. Make it a promo percentage off ( which simply requires a sign change) then mark it once it's clearance. You have a ton of DMs and RDs from the stone age that are really afraid of making the changes that a company that plans to be around for another 10 years needs to make.

I worked at Gymboree full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

doesn't require a top notch sales team..

    Cons

alot of customers resell product on Ebay, old product left in inventory and little discretion and imagination allowed in selling, moving merchandise, operating business

    Advice to Management

get rid of old inventory. pay people better. change scheduling style and time spent in store recovering.
