No opinion of CEO

I have been working at H E B part-time (More than a year)

Pros

There is lots of room for advancement. They have leadership work shops and management training programs. If you want to move up all you have to do is ask.

Cons

Work load is not evenly distributed. Often time the ones doing all of the work get blamed for the ones not doing their share of the work.

Advice to Management

Pay close attention to who is doing their job and who isn't. This will help address the work load issues.

    Pros

Overall a great company. The stores are great with great products. A lot of great people. And the corporate facility is beautiful. Networking is everywhere.

    Cons

Lacks career opportunities for individuals who do not pucker up. Design & Construction department allowed several employees to treat other department members badly. Leadership needs improvement. HR no help when you really need it.
In the stores - the bagging training needs to be brought back. Former family culture is slipping.

    Advice to Management

Actually use the because people matter surveys to improve the departments that score low. Make management accountable for issues they ignore. Note - High turnover in a small department means there is a major problem with management.

    I have been working at H E B part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great work environment, fast paced which passes the time, depending on the store, your co-workers are key to getting through the day. Customers can be great, and the job requires you to come out of your shell, which can be a really great thing. The company also has a lot of great benefits that encourage cohesion and comraderie with your fellow partners.

    Cons

Depending on the manager, the floor can be run haphazardly, and seniority is prized over actual skill. Customers can be crappy to you, but that's any job really. Multitasking is key for the management, and some lack the skills to handle an understaffed busy day.

    Advice to Management

Get managers in who know what they are doing.
