I have been working at HCR ManorCare full-time

Pros

Stable company, large number of facillities allows for transfers, good online educational resources (though not enough computers/time to access them).

Cons

Fairly typical of SNFs are low staff- to- patient ratios, inefficient and often burdensome policies, unrealistic productivity standards, lack of communication (at times) between departments. Compared to other similar companies I've worked in, the policies are particularly burdensome and unproductive. Some policies and performance indicators are mind-boggling that anyone would have come up with....certainly not developed by clinical staff,; most certainly for reports and not having any direct impact on delivery of care or quality indicators. In otherwords, time-consuming and yet, emphasizing the WRONG things. Fortunately, dedicated staff who do their best to work within some ineffective, nonproductive and useless mandates.

Advice to Management

Streamline processes and this company can really shine! Get more input from all staff about how they can do their jobs better. Let them come up with ways to be more productive and provide excellence. USE the collective creativity and talent you have at your disposal! And while productivity is vital to the company's viability, numbers don't tell the whole story. Look at other indicators as well for the long-term health of HCRM. Your staff is by far your greatest asset. Include them in making HCRMC the industry leader.

I worked at HCR ManorCare full-time

    Pros

    - Helping others in need. The patients are the best part of the job.

    Cons

    - Disgruntled employees.
    - Low pay.
    - Poor management.
    - High turnover rate.
    - Working during the weekday and weekend makes the work/life balance difficult.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to learn how to value its employees. The high turnover rate makes a confusing environment, which is especially detrimental in a nursing home. If employees felt valued and appreciated, maybe they'd stay. Better pay would also help.

I have been working at HCR ManorCare full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

i love the staff that i work with from ancillary, nursing, dietary, housekeeping, and most of all the rehab staff that i work with. i love what i do and the the things i learn from my patients and from the other staff i work with on a daily basis.

    Cons

no appropriate lunch room for manor care palos east. we are like a herd of cattle being shepherd away from our work areas towards a boxed in and compressed little lunch room to take a 30minute lunch breaks. no lockers for 50+ full time employees of rehab staff to put away our personal items such as phones and wallets, and the said items are only stuffed into one of the supposedly "organizing file cabinet" that is easily accessible to other people such as patients and other staff. we are currently being mismanaged and our current leader (director of rehab) does not qualify or even have the quality to lead people. productivity rate of 90% - 95% for all employees and "paperwork" or documentation is non-billable, so the work that you do that is not patient care such a documentation is not productive and is not "allowed" at all costs because of budget issues. there are so many cons but it is what it is. no room for growth and development as a clinician here because apparently learning things through inservices and CE's at work are "unproductive".

    Advice to Management

do not work for manor care if you're looking for growth and development, and also an excellent learning and working experience because none of those are applicable to manor care.
