I worked at HSBC Holdings as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

My work was very relaxed, there were lots of other interns my age (University) there that were great fun, and we were pretty much able to make our own work.

Cons

Your experience will vary wildly depending on the team you are placed on. Some people had things even more relaxed than I did, with one person threatening to quit in his third month there unless he was given some work to do since he was so bored. On the opposite end of the scale, some people were very overworked and/or had managers from hell that berated them until they were on the verge of tears.

Advice to Management

My manager never had a good grasp on what me or my co-op partner were doing. The fullest extent of his involvement was popping in to ask us if we had something to do once every month or so. Being more active with the co-ops would be appreciated.

    9. A efficient risk management system
    10. Good training program for entry-level employees
    11. Internship program is amazing: interns are regarded as full-time employees and they can learn a lot from people in different departments through rotation

    Cons

Sometimes it's too conservative in risk management

    Advice to Management

Involve more investment service as a complement to the commercial banking service

I have been working at HSBC Holdings full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    International Bank
    Prospects and Opportunities
    Positive perception of the brand
    Good work- life balance

    Cons

    "Folow-the-rules ONLY!" environment
    No challenge at all.
Ultra-Conservatism and no change (department was working at called "Change Delivery" but there was no change at all - just follow the rules).
Still are using MS Office 2003.
Creativity and out of box thinking by not means are welcomed - just follow the rules
Ultra-Bureaucracy and huge paper work (although physical papare is minimum but bureaucratic documentation and procedures are tremendous).
Although "openness" is one of the values, there is no openness at all -recent Mexican hazard as a prove
Cost saving via job cut is normal, no ethical issues are considered

    Advice to Management

Ultra-Bureaucracy and conservatism is advocated for safety, security and reputational reasons, but recent Mexican hazard showed that management needs REALLY be OPEN and transparent, not just declare it.
