I worked at HSN full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Nice campus and employee discount
Worked with a lot of great people and made a lot of friends

Cons

My supervisor was a woman who would micromanage every little aspect of her team, until there was an issue or a problem - then it was all on you. A very poor leader who would bog her team down with distracting busy work, endless meetings, and other distractions from your already very busy days that would often keep you at your desk well into the evening hours.

There's a palpable sense of hostility that exists between departments at HSN. You get the sense that the only reason anybody cooperates with other teams is because they have too, but won't hesitate to throw other team members under the bus as soon as they can.

They expect you to be on your Blackberry 24/7/365, or else.

Very little chance of advancement unless you're a part of the clique or of a certain lifestyle persuasion. Some inexperienced VP's & directors here were hired only because of who on the 5th Floor of the Tower they know, while offering little expertise to the company.

Advice to Management

Understand the strengths of your team members and let them loose to do what they know how to do.

Quit promoting people based only on the crowd they run with. This isn't high school.

I have been working at HSN full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of different types of jobs. People are generally nice and easy to get along with. My department offered a great learning experience.

    Cons

Upper management is disconnected from employees. The sense of entitlement is astounding and the pay is low. .Hard to move between jobs due to the low speed in which slots open. They have been giving jobs to contractors more than anything lately. Benefits are bad.

    Advice to Management

Don't set unrealistic expectations, set SLA"s and stick to them, don't make exceptions. Increase pay for the working man, and get better insurance. Its not fair how much profit the company makes, and how much the CEO makes, when I'm paying almost 400 a month for health insurance.
