I worked at Habitat for Humanity as a contractor (Less than a year)

Pros

It serves a wonderful purpose and is very community oriented. Volunteers from all walks of life get together to help their neighbor.

Cons

Most of the positions are part time, almost no benefits for the majority of the employees. Communication isn't always great.

I have been working at Habitat for Humanity (Less than a year)

    Pros

Volunteers tend to be all hyped up and super eager to build, you have to put the brakes on them or your job site will spin out of control. Had a great time teaching people, everybody was terrific to work with at the site.

    Cons

The management is great at raising money, getting volunteers and trying to help you. However, they don't know alot about construction and can make you a little crazy at times.

    Advice to Management

Don't get hung up on how long the building process takes, your working with rank amatuers for the most part. Also, however bad you think the house is that you bought to rehab, well it's really six times worse. Trust your project managers more, they have a clue about what they are doing.

  2. "Large nonprofit that feels very much like working at a large company"

    Pros

    Friendly atmosphere
Religious at its core, but won't offend those who aren't zealous Christians
Opportunities to transition into different roles over career

    Cons

"Silo effect" seems to sometimes stiffle good ideas being picked up from one department to another
Leadership tends to favor known entities versus bringing in fresh perspectives from outside of the network
