I worked at Habitat for Humanity as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

Good substantive work and meaningful impact on the conduct of the charity's work. Great work-life balance with okay opportunities for advancement

Cons

Company struggles with its religious identity which can get in the way of some of the things it's doing - it's heavily branded as christian and that closes as many doors as it opens internationally.

Advice to Management

Communicate more frequently and clearly with your employees.

I worked at Habitat for Humanity full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Your doing work that helps others in need.

    Cons

Each affiliate is only as good as its Board of Directors. Some B.O.D. members serve only to line their resumes and could really care less about the "mission".

    Advice to Management

Management should play a more active role in understanding how the B.O.D manages each affiliate. The fact that each affiliate is run autonomously means a bad or corrupt B.O.D. can not only distract from the mission, but in some cases actually break the law. A good and active B.O.D. however can really have a positive impact on the employees, mission and community. It really is a crap shoot.

I worked at Habitat for Humanity full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Working for a worthy cause, helping people to build homes

    Cons

Lack of autonomy. Working relationships can be approved between all departments and with the volunteers.
Office culture can be improved as well.

    Advice to Management

Hire people and allow them to do their job without too much interference from upper management
