I worked at Half Price Books full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

great benefits, decent hourly pay for a retail job, great if you love being around books and like people.

    Cons

Catty leadership, merit-based promotions seem to be a thing of the past--feels like you have to be the boss's friend to get ahead. The raises are scant, and quarterly bonuses are nice--but barely help.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees when they offer suggestions. Certain managers at your Richardson store should really leave--they seem burned out and can't get moral up at their store. Doing away with the free healthcare plan was a horrible idea--I would have rather you readjusted the vacation, done away with quarterly bonuses, change sick time policies or holidays than take away the base health insurance plan. For me, it was the last straw, and why I decided to find work elsewhere.
