    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Harbor Freight Tools part-time

    Pros

Compensated for Extended Service Plans and Inside Track Sales. Paid Time Off accumulation. Sick Time Off accumulation.

    Cons

Hired with pay as a cashier, yet only cashier maybe 3 times monthly. Hard work unappreciated. Hard to achieve FT hours. Unfavorable employee atmosphere among management.

    Advice to Management

Advancement should only be granted to achiever's, not from manager's showing favoritism. Too many Chief's, not enough Indian's on a daily schedule (wasted company money). Too many management hours spent on smoke breaks (4-5 not including lunch) in an 8 hour period. Working an 8-9 hour shift consist of two 15 minute breaks for "ALL" employees, not just for smoker's. Signing "Employee 5 Minute Meeting Sheets" should be consistent with employee's duties for the shift. Schedule's should be posted and consistent, NOT "copy and paste" change when manager takes a notion. When asked to come in on a day scheduled "Off" and unable to fulfill managers request. Manager shouldn't cut hours for the rest of the week schedule. Safety precautions need to be adhered to by management too!!!

I worked at Harbor Freight Tools full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good business model. Good pay, great environment.

    Cons

Trying is very lacking. Senior leadership is in need of an overhaul and overall employee development is extremely difficult if at all.

    Advice to Management

Senior management needs to put more of an investment into the development of its store management staff. Very little is done to actually develop any member of management. Too much time is spent on pointing fingers and no time on what the actual needs of the staff are to run it effectively. Try helping each individual store to develop it's own business plan and actually treat it's staff as the investment that you hired.
