Pros

*Fun, friendly, and interesting people
*Professional yet relaxed working environment
*Collaboration/teamwork is important, and individuality is also celebrated
*Your insights and contributions are valued, even if you are new to the job
*Fairly flexible work hours
*Millions of people get to enjoy the results of your hard work
*Music is everywhere!

Cons

*Work weeks can be long; during "crunch time" for a major release, 60-hour weeks are common (for me this was actually more of a pro, because I loved my work and it meant overtime pay)
*No benefits for contract employees
*Job security in the QA industry is not great

Advice to Management

While switching the majority of your QA department to contract positions may save you some money in the short term, having permanent, full-time QA testers allows for a more coherent and efficient team that's more familiar with the company and the products. This makes for better functioning, more polished games with fewer bugs - a reputation for which is a major boon to any developer.

I worked at Harmonix Music Systems full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Very employee friendly,
    Creative atmosphere
    Visionary ideas
GH and RB were great times

    Cons

Not as organic as it used to be.
Too many large layoffs causes uncertainty and duress.
Sometimes they should think about the size of the potential market for a game idea

    Advice to Management

Stop doing peripheral dependent games for a while, go back to the heart and soul that was GH and RB, but don't do beat matching
