    Pros

Benefits, health plan, flexibility with scheduling. Fellow employees are great. The company has numerous stores making it easy to tranfer to location in close proximity to home or school.

    Cons

Department Management at 2/3rds of the stores I have worked in were not as efficient, effective, respectful, or accountable as I would expect. Customers are some time rude and hurtful. Management cares more about customer than employees in many instances. (Keep your employees happy and your customers will be too.) Company has cut hours and suppossedly placed a hiring freeze of full time employees. Higher management seems to be placed on a pedestal and rarely get their hands dirty when perspective departments are in desperate need.

    Advice to Management

I would like to see management take better care of their Fresh Foods department employees. Make department managers accountable for their actions. Deal with ineffective managers. Don't just transfer them to another store without solving the problems.

    Pros

Harris Teeter was a decent place to work. They pay lower than most places as Cashier and you are basically expected to do your utmost in terms of customer service, I mean that's what Harris Teeter is known for. You are suppose to ask "paper or plastic bags for you today" and required to say "can I help you out with your groceries "today" even if the customer is a single, athletic male buying only a single item.

    Cons

However, HT never recognizes you for the hard work you do and that's the main problem. You can work very hard for one month taking customers when you are suppose to be a bagger, doing duties twice as fast and just doing work very fast and devotedly, but in the end you'll be recgonized maybe even less than the cashier you always leaves their register to talk to their friend or to their other employees in different departments.

    Advice to Management

Recognition is key in the workplace, work on it Harris Teeter and stop rewarding the lazy and popular people and ignoring the hard working people.
