I worked at Harte Hanks full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

There were many people that I worked with that I would consider top tallent. Polite, hard working, intelegent and willing to learn people. Many of which were workers on the floor.

Cons

Poor upper management. There are managers that are stuck in their ways, even though they are being told to do a thinkg they would continue to do the things they wanted. Managers that knew what needed to be done were not allowed the athority to do what needed to be done by thoes above them. This would also keep the employees from being able to grow with the company in their careers. They are also not up to date on wages

Advice to Management

When you tell your managers you are going to empower them. Do so, have trust in the managers you hired to fix the problems you see. Do not fire managers and replace them with people that have the same mindset as thoes you just let go because they were not a good fit.

I worked at Harte Hanks full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Worked with some truly bright talented people, good salary

    Cons

The upper management is the worst and the middle layer is not much better. Most of the smart, talented, people-oriented, forward thinking employees that I knew have left or been laid off since 2008. What's left is not the cream of the crop. Culture is very negative and did not improve when the President, Gary Skidmore, was let go last summer as many of us had hoped.

    Advice to Management

Shed the upper layer of stuck in the mud, doing it the same old way management - look down in the middle layers at what's left of your talent, hire fresh from the outside and really learn to think out of the box.

I have been working at Harte Hanks full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Flexible hours
    Their checks do not bounce

    Cons

Poor Communication in all ways you can think of. No kidding.
    Inadequate Training
Lots of surprises - schedule changes, evaluations seem like you can never win
Supervisors do not have enough time to do their jobs.
    Money is squeezed super tight.
    Facility is dirty
Heat / cooling are not very good
Computers are slow and crashes are too frequent.
Pay is really poor given what they expect.
Turnover is horrendous - seems like over 100% a year

    Advice to Management

Don't waste your breath giving advice to management.
