I worked at Harvard University full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Benefits are comprehensive and include a variety of items not found elsewhere. Generous tuition assistance plan, numerous health benefit options, fitness benefit, etc. 35-hour full-time workweek for staff.

Cons

Bureaucracy is everywhere. Most staff positions fall under the CTW Union, so pay raises, work schedules, etc. are fixed and non-negotiable. Pay rate is based on 35-hour workweek, so take-home pay is less than comparable positions with 40-hour workweeks.

    Pros

The people in my office were wonderful. There was mutual respect and everyone was helpful, I never experienced people with hidden agendas or passive aggressive behavior.

    Cons

Occasionally there are inefficiencies or hoops to jump through to get to a certain point (i.e. all the paperwork and meetings to apply for something basic like a raise or title change)

I have been working at Harvard University full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Harvard offers tremendous benefits, from vacation time, medical benefits and financial investments. They offer various job opportunities and often promote from within the university. They believe in a family and work life balance. I feel fortunate to work at this university.

    Cons

I can't think of any cons.

    Advice to Management

Upper Management strives to keep employees informed of any changes, updates, by regularly scheduling town hall meetings, where there is an open forum to address any concerns to upper management.
