I worked at Harvey Norman Holdings full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked with the Online Team in Harvey Norman for over two years. During this time I have learned a great deal about e-commerce and retail. The best part of working here was the relaxed yet productive work environment. Employees were given enough guidance to work efficiently as both a team and as individuals, yet were not smothered by micromanagement. The relatively small Online Team gels well together which further fuels our productivity and empowerment.

The company promotes a culture of excellence where every employee is encouraged to achieve the highest possible standard in their work. This shared vision helps employees feel a part of something greater.

    Cons

Being physically separated from Head Office in Swords can sometimes result in a break down in communication which means reduced efficiency.
On a similar note, the Online office can sometimes feel isolated from the rest of the company so it could be productive for the Online team to meet with people from all areas of the business in both a professional and social environment.

    Advice to Management

I believe that the people who work at Harvey Norman are the company's greatest commodity. Management needs to recognise and reward hard work, productivity and a staff member's length of service. Management needs to consider a clear path of employee development. This could mean more performance reviews, establishing goals for individuals to meet and offering roles to staff that require more responsibility.

Employee development would be beneficial to both the company and the employee, since it would increase an employee's motivation and loyalty to the company
