Pros

The teachers at this school, with few exceptions, are excellent and really care about what they do. They are the only reason I have stayed for the whole year.

Cons

Tough population to work with
admin is inconsistent with discipline
as with all teaching jobs right now, it is extremely difficult to get full time work if you are new

Advice to Management

Back up the teachers when discipline is needed. Do not threaten a consequence and not follow through - you should know this.

    Pros

Many availabilities and needs here. Friendly working environment!

    Cons

You must apply yourself; do not be afraid just because you are given a "subordinate" title. Students will respond to discipline and respect you in the end. Have fun!

    Advice to Management

Please do not pressure subs into committing to work well into the future. Most appreciate the flexibility subbing offers, and therefore, prefers the day-by-day approach.

I worked at Hayward USD full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The starting salary for a first teacher is high and there are unofficial, loose programs in place to help new hires become aquatinted with the school's policies.

    Cons

The staff is incredibly unfriendly and unwelcoming. The turnover rate is extremely high, which may be why the staff rarely goes out of their way to meet new hires. The administration offers kind words and support to a select few members of staff, and often snubs all other accomplishments from staff who do not belong to this group.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to get to know and appreciate all of the good things that your staff is doing, not just those in performing arts. Offer more support to the drama department! If a parent mentions a helpful teacher during the coffee with the principal meeting, reach out to that teacher and actually TELL them.
