Pros

Co-workers are supportive and most of them care. Principals care and try to support teachers. Salary is decent. Benefits are greatly appreciated.

Cons

Students are socially promoted and pushed through classes to give appearance of high expectations. The amount of parent contact is unrealistic if taken as written. Very stressful because of the divergent socio-economic range in each class.

Advice to Management

Test students and place appropriately in classes. Inform parents that they may have to support extra time in student learning at home.

I have been working at Hazelwood School District full-time

    Pros

Ongoing training in SiS, paid heath/dental/vision, paid vacation days, sick days, two personal days.

    Cons

Lunch is unpaid and a bulk of the holiday breaks are also unpaid except for those specific holidays. For example, most of winter break is unpaid except for Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Years. Job can also depend greatly on the site you work at. While some schools will have you desk bound nearly all day, other sites may use you as a pseudo-teacher assistant.

    Advice to Management

While the training is appreciated, please allow for more prepared materials to be gone over at the school site instead of traveling to several different schools on PD days for support staff. It doesn't leave a lot of time for record keeping and other duties to be done.
