I have been working at Hertz full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Hard work is valued and encouraged. Also, creativity is also strongly encouraged with frequent brainstorming and other idea-generating processes. Those with great ideas are rewarded both professionally and financially. As the company grows, there are opportunities in so many diverse areas. The company continues to acquire other companies, giving its employees so many options for future career growth.

Cons

Very competivive environement can bring challenging times. Also, very dependent on the economy. in rough economic times, things can stressful with the downward pressure.

Advice to Management

Re-evaluate compensation model and other financial benefits more often. Sometimes, the compensation system can seem archaic.

I worked at Hertz full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It was great having a company car, but working 12 hour days, so then by the weekend, I was too tired to use it to go anywhere. Not a bad strategy

    Cons

Honesty and integrity are not valued as much as bottom line and making it look good.

    Advice to Management

Teach your managers to manage. Use the carrot, not the whip. Use your heads, you can't punish people to get better. Progressive discipline should be combined with retraining and motivation.

I have been working at Hertz full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The opportunitty for advacement is based solely on results and teamwork. Also, the skills you learn are transferable: IE. how to run your own business with P&L responsibilities. You have complete oversight of your own business within 18 months of joining the company.

    Cons

Customers can sometimes be a challenge, but with training and experience you quickly learn how to difuse situations and delight.

    Advice to Management

Stick to your plan - it's working. Hard work rewarded with handsome compensation and above average paid time off. One of the few compnies that I know of where you get 3 weeks of vacation after your first year and both an employer 401K match in addition to a 100% company paid retirement plan.
