Pros

Large company, opportunity to move within the company

Cons

Slow to change. Corporate management is disrespectful to buiness units. Lack of confidence in top management to lead company going forward, very short sighted and emotional.

Advice to Management

Pay attention to what made HP great in the past and that is respect the employees.

    Pros

Hewlett-Packard is an excellent place to start a career. Considering it's size, you are presented with the opportunity to move up in the company, but to move laterally within the company to discover what you really like. They are very open that it is a competitive work and I appreciate that. Too many companies these days pitch the "family" environment only to be more cut throat than the rest with less rewards for your hard work. HP, for the most part, is not one of these companies.

    Cons

Some of the pros are also cons. Due to its size, it takes a long time to find information or to get things done. Coupled with a competitive environment, at times you are expected to navigate this complex structure on your own. If you are someone who needs a lot of support on a daily basis this may not be the place for you, but if you are up to the challenge and can make it here, you can make it anywhere.

    Advice to Management

KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid. Because of its size I know many things can't be simplified, but try to ensure decisions are made at the lowest level possible with as little formal approval as possible. The faster we can work, the more competitive we will be. Additionally, this idea is what made Hewlett-Packard great in the first place.

    Pros

The size and scope of the company can introduce interesting challenges in IT, but because of the global nature of the company, it seems like you have to work 24/7.

    Cons

Phone culture puts you on the phone 4 hours per day.
